OSF to Run New Dental Clinic in Peoria for Children
The Peoria City/County Health Department has announced that its pediatric dental clinic will be closing next year. As a result of this closure, individuals who previously relied on the clinic’s services will need to seek alternative dental care options. However, the Health Department has assured the community that they are actively working to provide an alternative low-cost dental care solution for those affected by the clinic’s closure.
During the meeting, the Board of Health decided to close down the health department’s clinic, which has been providing essential services to over 2,500 children annually. As a result of this closure, OSF Saint Francis Medical Center has taken the initiative to establish and operate a new clinic, which is projected to begin serving the community next year.
Oral Care Market Size
As per the detailed report of Precedence Research, the oral care market size accounted for USD 44.57 billion in 2023 and is predicted to be worth around USD 76.14 billion by 2033, growing at a solid CAGR of 5.5% from 2023 to 2033.
Monica Hendrickson, the dedicated Public Health Administrator, emphasized that their healthcare facility is fully equipped to serve a diverse range of clients, including adults and older people. She also expressed concerns about the long-term viability of the clinic under the current operational model. During our conversation, she also discussed the challenges they were encountering, particularly in the recruitment of staff. She emphasized the difficulty in finding and hiring dentists and dental assistants, who are integral members of the team.
The administration encountered numerous challenges while undertaking the task. However, despite these obstacles, they persevered. The upcoming new facility is set to be established within the premises of Peoria County Health. This state-of-the-art establishment will offer affordable healthcare services and strive to enhance the community’s overall well-being. Additionally, plans are in place to construct the Human Resources building on Sheridan Road. This building will play a pivotal role in organizing and implementing a comprehensive dental awareness campaign to educate and empower the local population about oral health.
The current setup of the clinic temporarily sees pediatric patients. However, they will receive adults in the future and provide comprehensive care for families. The director of OSF community outreach, Amanda Sutphen, stated that the organization recognized the need for clinics and the community’s health. She also mentioned that the clinic will maintain dental care for thousands of children. OSF’s General Practice Residency Program (GPR) for General Dentistry at the Heartland Healthcare Clinic will move operations to the new clinic. The students and staff will both help the facility. The health department’s clinic will provide service till the new facility begins its service in 2025.
