CDCP Expands Dental Care Access for Millions in Canada

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is expected to be the most opportunistic for up to 9 million Canadian residents to access dental services at affordable costs. In this largest social program in Canada, over 2,494,877 were approved applicants, and over 751,048 approved applicants received care. The total number of oral health providers participating in the Canadian Dental Care Plan was 20,963 caregivers. The Government of Canada provides benefits such as child benefits, employment insurance, dental coverage, pensions, and benefits for housing, assistance for students, families, people with disabilities, and even after a death. The CDCP program offers dental coverage for seniors aged 65 and above, children under 18, and adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate. The federal government supports the CDCP program to offer dental coverage for uninsured Canadians with a family net income of less than $90,000.

The Interim Canada Dental Benefit provides dental care to children under the age of 12 and this initiative has already supported over 45,000 children. Over 2 million applications from seniors have been approved for the CDCP program, and many are receiving dental care. Since June 2024, the Canadian Dental Care Plan continued its expansion by including children under 18 and people with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate. Canada’s tax system can collaborate with wealthy people who can pay their fair share for investments in health and prosperity for all age groups.

In Canada, there are grants for additional services, subsidies for preventive products, incentives for remote area care, funding for educational programs, and training providers to treat seniors. The CDCP program also offers incentives for oral health professionals with increased fees for care in personal care homes.
